April 20 and 21, the Gen. John R. Chambliss, Jr. SCV Camp 1779, with the assistance of several other SCV Camps, sponsored a Civil War Living History Event on the Gen. J. R. Chambliss farm, which is located West of Emporia, Virginia. There were exhibits presented by family members. Sam Adams is the third great-grandson of General John R. Chambliss and had interesting items that belonged to the General and the Chambliss family on exhibit. portrayals of noted personalities of the day — General Robert E. Lee and Anna Jackson, wife of Stonewall Jackson.Other period re-enactments and demonstrations of the period include the role of the doctor during the war, banjo music from the period, and a taste of Brunswick as presented through the Old Brunswick Camp’s Brunswick Stew. Author Nancy Basinger Brewer will also be on hand to talk about her series of books about life in the South, before, during, and after the war.
